In a cricket-obsessed country like India, there are thousands of youngsters who have the dream to represent the national team by donning the blue jersey. But a cricket team has 11 players to play on the field. So, the best among the premium cricketers are chosen to play for the team. Disappointingly, some Indian players got the chance in the team but could not maintain their position because of competition.

Apart from the competition, some players also lose place because of a lack of consistency in their game. Indian cricketers must perform remarkably at every stage to hold their place in the playing XI. Some players had an impressive initial career but a string of inconsistent performances made them fade away.

On that note, here we take a look at 5 Indian cricketers who disappeared after promising starts:

Robin Uthappa had a dream-like beginning in the international cricket but soon he vanished away from the team’s batting order because of the emergence of better cricketers than him.

In 2006, he played the maiden ODI against England and scored a well compiled 86, opening the innings at Indore. Following impressive performances, the Karnataka player was included in the 2007 World Cup and also got the place in the T20 World Cup the same year.

But Uthappa could not give consistent performance in the tournament. However, he played all the matches in the tournament, which was won by India. His performance dipped after the Asia Cup 2008.

From there on, he was in and out of the team and finally was dropped from the team at the end of 2015.

Uthappa has played 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is and scored 934 and 294 respectively. However, the 33-year old plays in domestic cricket for Kerela but has failed to get a call from the national side.
