Former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra has given the difference between the captaincy of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Sourav Ganguly. The pacer, who last played for India in 2017, has played most of his cricket under Dhoni and Ganguly’s captaincy.
In 2017, Nehra played only four T20I matches and all under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. So, he hasn’t played a lot of cricket under the current captain. Although he has spent time with Kohli as a bowling coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2018.
Ashish Nehra on the leadership of Virat Kohli:

In a recent interview with his former Delhi teammate Aakash Chopra, Nehra expressed Kohli is a fantastic player, but he needs to work on his captaincy skills. He further said that Kohli is also an impulsive captain.
” Virat Kohli as a player needs no recognition as his career graph tells the entire story. Kohli as a player has done amazingly well, in captaincy I still feel he is a work in progress. I can say he is a little bit, impulsive captain.”
Ashish Nehra differentiates between Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni’s captaincy:

Nehra in his initial stages of a career played under Sourav Ganguly. He said that Ganguly used to back players and would fight with the team management to support a player. He said that on the other hand, Dhoni was a calculative captain and always thought of giving equal chances to players.
“Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni, both knew how to bring the best out of their players, you can be a good captain only then. When Ganguly became took the captaincy role, the team was was rebuilding itself, for MS Dhoni the best part he had Gary Kirsten as the coach and the team was also ready. MS Dhoni had a challenge of captaining many seniors in the team while Ganguly had the challenge of leading many youngsters.”
Ashish Nehra heaps praise on MS Dhoni:

“Sourav Ganguly would mark his players and back them even if he had to fight with the selectors, chairman or president of the board, which was a very good thing. MS Dhoni is a very calculative captain, he is not an impulsive captain, he is cool and calm. He thought of giving chances to as many players as possible.”
“Dhoni formed a good partnership with Gary Kirsten and during his reign, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and others were still playing. Even when he was appointed the captain of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup team, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh were there,” he added.
The former Indian captain Dhoni has not played a match after the disheartening World Cup 2019. He is under sabbatical and is likely to continue playing IPL.
