India’s talented batsman Shreyas Iyer has revealed that he will always look to lead an underdog team if he is given the choice. The right-hander believes if one is able to take an underdog team to glory, then he is looked differently as a leader. Iyer has done a fine job with Delhi Capitals and he was able to take his team to playoff stages for the first time in six years.
In IPL 2019, Iyer was leading the franchise for the first time in a full season. He was handed over the job back in IPL 2018 when Gautam Gambhir could not deliver the goods.

Shreyas Iyer has led with aplomb.
Delhi went on to win nine out of the 14 matches they played and sealed their position in the top four of the competition. The club went finished at third place in the league stages. Subsequently, Delhi defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator but could not go past Chennai Super Kings in the second qualifier.
Thus, Iyer was able to get the best out of his players and he has made a name for himself as one of the promising young captains. Shreyas Iyer has led Delhi Capitals in 24 IPL matches in which the team has won on 13 occasions whereas they have lost 10 games and one match has ended in a tie. Thus, Iyer has an impressive winning percentage of 56.25.
“If I was ever given a choice or put in a situation, I would definitely look forward to leading an underdog team because if you can take an underdog team to the title, people look at you differently and you yourself also feel that sense of achievement,” Shreyas Iyer said.

Not only Shreyas Iyer has impressed with his captaincy but he has also delivered the goods with the bat. The right-hander has scored 1681 runs in 62 IPL matches at an average of 30.56. The Mumbai batsman has also grabbed the number four position in India’s limited-overs side.
Iyer has scored 748 runs in 18 ODI matches at an impressive average of 49.87. Thus, he would like to continue his good show going in the IPL as well as on the International level.
