Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has completed his six days quarantine period and attended the first training session on Tuesday in Dubai. He has strategies to not over train players during the three weeks training period ahead of the IPL tournament scheduled to begin from 19th September.
Ponting said that they had planned the training sessions differently than last year because the players are being trained in different batches to lessen the number of gathering to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“We’ve got a smaller squad so I want to sort of manage our training sessions differently than we did last year,” Ponting said in an official release issued by Delhi Capitals.

The former Australian captain has said that he would ensure that the side does not over-train within the first three weeks. He wants to get the player ‘physically, technically, and tactically’ ready for their first IPL game.
“I’ve made it clear to the boys that we are not going to over-train in the first three weeks. I believe our preparation leading up to the first game is critical. I want to make sure that physically, technically, and tactically the boys are peaking for the first game,” he said.
Ricky Ponting will make sure DC replicates last year’s performance:

In IPL 2019, DC for the first time reached the playoffs in the tournament’s history but failed to qualify for finals. Ponting expressed that the franchise would try to replicate the last year’s performance in the upcoming edition.
“Last year, I had as much fun as I’ve ever had with a cricket team, and I want to make sure we can replicate that this season as well,” Ponting said.
“I think it’s really important that when you have success, you understand why you have it. I’ll be banking on the guys we still have from last year, it’s important for them to remember the positives,” he added.
Meanwhile, DC recently roped in former Australian cricketer Ryan Harris as their bowling coach.
