Sonya Deville is back on WWE SmackDown to the surprise of the WWE Universe. The bygone New Year’s Day edition of the show on FOX featured a backstage segment where Deville was shown walking through the backstage area of the ThunderDome at Tropicana Field. Several, male and female Superstars were shown looking at her in shock.
Corey Graves later noted during commentary that Sonya Deville has been reinstated to the SmackDown roster and thus she is once again a WWE Superstar. She has been away from the WWE storylines since losing the “No Disqualification Loser Leaves WWE” match to Mandy Rose at WWE SummerSlam in late August. Rose has been sent to the RAW brand in the 2020 WWE Draft so the two of them won’t come face to face on TV.

There’s no word yet on what WWE has planned for Sonya Deville on the blue brand but we can assume that most of the superstars didn’t have any clue about her showing up. The superstars giving that surprising look while staring at her were perhaps natural reactions from them as they were fully unaware of the return of the former Fire n Desire member.
Update On Sonya Deville’s Shocking WWE Return
Ringside News has learned that Sonya Deville’s return to television was “kept under wraps.” Obviously, most of the people didn’t know about it and WWE also didn’t want it to be so that natural reactions could be captured. Deville’s former best friend cum rival Mandy Rose is on Raw and so that angle won’t be dragged.
Sonya Deville should now be in her own direction on SmackDown. In the past, she wanted to bring a “Daddy Deville” character on TV. She was dressed accordingly while appearing on SmackDown. Also, she dropped a tweet following that comeback just saying, ‘Daddy’s Home’ that indicated perhaps a gimmick change could be in store for her in the future.

The return was also the first time that Sonya Deville was seen by the fans since her stalker’s trial started. She now has a permanent injunction against her stalker and the trial could last until the summer.
Sean Ross Sapp also reported that nobody thought that she would be back at this point. However, her return could really help the SmackDown women’s division,
“There were a lot of people in WWE that didn’t expect Sonya Deville back for months to come, so this is a big shot in the arm.”
