Jos Buttler: Everyone Knows The Benefits Of The IPL

Jos Buttler added that playing all the matches in all the formats was not possible under the current scenario involving strict bio-bubbles and numerous Covid-19 protocols. Further, Jos Buttler, who opted out of the last 3 Tests against India to return fresh for the white-ball matches and IPL, defended the involvement of England players in the cash-rich league and said that everyone knows about the “benefits” of playing in the world’s biggest T20 tournament.

“I completely understand where you are coming from,” said Jos Buttler when asked if England should always come first. ‘It’s a far from perfect situation and I don’t really have an answer to come back with, to be honest.”

“Yes, absolutely,” asserted Jos Buttler when asked if he had thought about opting out of part of his IPL contract. “That’s always a consideration as a player. We didn’t speak to the ECB about it but you have to take those decisions as an individual.”

“We all know the benefits of the IPL. It is a huge tournament and the monetary rewards are obvious. But there are also obvious benefits with regard to player improvement and the experiences you gain,” Jos Buttler added.

Moeen Ali, England’s finest performer in the 2nd Test at Chepauk where he bagged 8 scalps and top-scored in 2nd innings of 2nd Test, was sent home as part of England’s rotation policy. England continued with their rotation policy resting key players but the duo of Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood, both of whom were unavailable for the first two Tests in Chennai, made a return to the squad.

Chris Woakes didn’t feature in a single Test and flew home before the 4th Test while Jos Buttler missed the last 3 Tests. Sam Curran, England all-rounder didn’t join the England squad for the fourth Test due to the logistical challenges of travelling alone in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
