The 28 years old, Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner is no longer a Wolfsburg player. The German club have officially announced the termination of his contract, with a year still left in the contract to expire. According to BBC, the club officials have come to an agreement with the player about the termination of his contract, which has ended his stay at Wolfsburg after a move from Arsenal, back in 2014.
Failing to appear for Dieter Hecking’s starting eleven since February, Nicklas had fallen down the pecking order at the Volkswagen Arena. After a month, the former Arsenal forward was fined for showing up late for the training, and the reason was, he overslept. Turning up 45 minutes late for the training in the month of March cost him a bit as he was fined. Not only a disciplinary breach but he was also warned for posting a picture of his car on social media, which a Mercedes, in February. Because the club is owned by Volkswagen, and he violated terms.
The former Arsenal man joined the Bundesliga side in August 2014. Though, he has scored only thrice in his 31 league appearances before being sacked by the club.
For the past two weeks, Nicklas Bendtner has been training on his own and on Thursday the club’s sporting director, Klaus Allofs, said that they are hoping to let the striker leave the club as soon as possible. “Both Nicklas and ourselves had high hopes of his engagement at VfL-Wolfsburg, but after two years we have had to ascertain that the expectations were neither fulfilled for him, nor for us, and a continued cooperation made no sense for either side.
“For that reason, the mutual decision to end our association prematurely is thus the best solution for all parties. We wish Nicklas all the very best for his future career.” – said Klaus Allofs.
