SA-U19 vs NWD CSA Provincial T20 Cup Match Preview:

South Africa U19 will lock horns with North West Dragons in the 21st match of the CSA Provincial T20 Cup, at the Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Group C of the CSA Provincial T20 Challenge began with two one-sided matches, but things are certainly going to get exciting moving forward in this competition. Dolphins and Eastern Storm registered wins in their respective contests and are now occupying the top two positions at the points table.

Both these sides are coming off losses in their respective matches and will be desperate to bounce back. We expect both these sides to come out all guns blazing and a mouth-watering contest is certainly on the cards here.

South Africa U19 performed a lot better than many expected them to, but couldn’t keep themselves from losing. They were reasonably good in all three departments of the game and even some improvement can take them home in the upcoming matches. As it stands, they are placed at the third spot on the points table and will be looking to get a win here.

Batting first on a tricky surface, they did not get off to a good start, but their middle-order came good when they were needed to. Dewald Brevis was the pick of their batsmen, scoring 46 off 25 deliveries as they scored a total of 172 runs. He did get support from Andile Simelane, George van Heerden, and Kaden Solomons, but none of those batsmen could stay for long enough to put pressure on Storm’s bowlers.

With the ball, however, they gave away too many freebies, allowing Eastern Storm batsmen the opportunities to play release shots. Eventually, Eastern Storm were able to win the match with eight wickets in hand and a couple of overs to spare.

Overall, South Africa U19 looked good in the first match and even though they lack experience, they cannot be taken lightly. If they are able to improve themselves quickly, they should be a tough side to get past going forward.

Led by Nicky van der Bergh, the Dragons will be pretty disappointed with the performance they put in their opening match of the group. Despite having a decent side at their disposal, they failed to even put up a fight and are now languishing at the bottom of their group.

Batting first on a reasonably good batting surface, no one apart from Eben Botha looked comfortable against the accomplished bowling unit of the Dolphins. Both hammered 41 off 17, but the rest of the bowling managed to put only 87 runs from a little over 17 overs. Although there were some cameos, none of the batsmen managed to score big.

Even though the total of 128 was never going to be enough and their bowlers were always going to be under pressure, their bowlers were pretty disappointing as well. They conceded the loss with relative ease as Dolphins chased this total down with a little under five overs to spare.

All in all, North West Dragons failed to do well in both the departments of the game and will need something special to bounce back from here. They do have some capable and skilled players, and if they are able to play to their potential, South Africa U19 will have their work cut out.
