He might not have represented Pakistan for almost a year now, but discarded off-spinner Saeed Ajmal continues to remain in the news. Ajmal, often seen these days as a cricket analyst for TV shows, has made a controversial statement yet again. Once again, the ICC remains to be Ajmal’s prime target and the off-spinner hasn’t minced his words against the sport’s supreme governing body.
Ajmal, in his latest TV interaction, said that the art of bowling off spin was dying. Ajmal was quick to blame the ICC for this and said that he was targeted just because of his nationality. It must be remembered that Ajmal was banned from bowling in 2014, after his action was found to be illegal. He got the remedial work done, but that definitely hindered his effectiveness as a bowler.
“The art of off-spin is dying. The number of off- spinners around the world is dwindling and even some of those have dodgy actions. I feel that as a Pakistani I am scrutinized more than bowlers from other countries,” said a dejected Ajmal.
Ajmal also hinted the chances of a potential foul play in the ICC’s way of going about eradicating chuckers from the game. Ajmal said that there were certain bowlers around, with questionable actions, who are never suspected. “Everyone can see that some bowlers are getting away with their actions, but others are monitored closely and banned,” the off-spinner added.
Ajmal concluded by saying that bowlers from Pakistan and Bangladesh were watched more closely than bowlers from other nations. “It seems to me that the actions of bowlers from Pakistan and Bangladesh are watched more closely than other countries by the ICC,” said Ajmal.
