The biggest debate in the world of cricket at the moment is the title of the best batsman in all formats of the game and with current numbers, it sure looks like India’s star batsman Virat Kohli will run away with the title.
But he has been closely competed by a number of players including the likes of Steve Smith from Australia and AB de Villiers from South Africa.
However, one batsman who has silently gone on to win many hearts is England’s middle-order bat Joe Root.
The 25-year old had a stellar 12 months where he has scored two centuries against Australia in the Ashes series. He backed it up with 4 centuries in the ODI format with different teams and showed his worth to the team by standing as the leading run-scorer for England in the recently concluded World T20.
His exploits with the bat have now earned him a treble of trophies a he swept England’s award ceremony recently.
Along with the Test Player of the Year and the Limited Overs Player of the Year, Joe Root also won the Fan’s Player of the Year Award marking himself as one of the best players of the current generation.

Pacer Stuart Broad and all-rounder Ben Stokes who had a great time in the longer format of the game were the closest competitors for the Test award while the heroics of Jos Buttler and David Willey in the 50-over format were undone by the 25-year old.
Leeds, the host of the first test between England and Sri Lanka was also the host for these awards that took place on Monday.
Somerset’s Anya Shrubsole was voted Women’s Player of the Year.
Charlotte Edwards, the skipper of the national side who recently retired ran away with the Fan’s Player of the Year award for women.

Former England Coach David Lloyd was awarded a Special achievement award for his services to the England Cricket Board over the years.
England and Wales Cricket Board CEO Tom Harrison said on the eve of the awards,”Each of the players honored tonight has made a big contribution to England cricket, helping to win matches and to inspire a wider audience and deserves the highest praise.”
