"100%, He Is Their Captain Otherwise They Wouldn't Have Gone For Him That Hard"- Aakash Chopra Predicts RCB's New Captain 1

Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes that it’s a no-brainer that RCB would announce Faf du Plessis as their new captain otherwise they wouldn’t have gone for him that hard for so long as there were better options available at a cheaper price. Former South Africa captain was picked by RCB at a price of 7 crores.

Faf du Plessis made his IPL debut for Chennai Super Kings in 2012, since then he has been an integral part of their journey. When the franchise was banned for 2 years, he moved to the Rising Pune Supergiants and again returned back to the yellow army in 2018. In his IPL career, he played 100 matches and scored 2935 runs with a strike rate of 131.09 which included 22 fifties. Aakash Chopra states that he is the perfect candidate to lead RCB.

“His record is phenomenal”- Aakash Chopra

“100 percent. In my opinion, he is their captain. They will eventually announce it for sure. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have gone that hard for that long because there are other options available. If you are looking only at openers, there were options and there will be more in the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy. They did not go for someone like a Warner or Quinton de Kock.” Aakash Chopra said.

“They knew, they had their eyes set on Faf that he is our captain. His record is phenomenal. What he brings is stability and consistency. No international cricket is working in his favour now,” he added.

Former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim also opined the same as he stated it as a no-brainer decision.

“It’s a no brainer. RCB will go with Faf du Plessis as the captain and that is why they went after him so aggressively at the auction. He will be the number 1 candidate to lead them,” Saba Karim said.

Faf also led South Africa in 36 Tests, 39 ODIs, and 37 T20Is.

Other potential candidates for RCB’s captaincy are Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. It’ll be interesting to see who will be Virat Kohli’s successor. After the last season, Kohli stepped down from RCB’s captaincy.
