Sanju Samson expressed happiness about his successful comeback to the T20I team after a long time. Sanju scored 39 runs in 25 balls in the second T20I match against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala and he formed a partnership of 84 with Shreyas Iyer which kept India in the hunt as the host lost two wickets early in the chase. Then Jadeja played a blinder of an innings to finish the chase in style.

The last time Sanju Samson played an international game for India was in July 2021 when the second-string team was sent to play a white-ball series in Sri Lanka. Samson struggled to read Hasaranga’s variations in that series. In this series, Hasaranga was ruled out for Covid-19.

“Rhythm wasn’t there for the starting 10-12 balls”- Sanju Samson

In the post-match conversation, Samson stated that it was a good wicket to bat on and the boundary size was quite small so it was a good condition to bat and they capitalized it well. At one time he scored just 6 runs in the first 12 balls but made it up quickly once he got going. He said that he was missing the rhythm.

“I think the wicket was playing really well. The outfield is flying, boundaries short at this ground. When we were in good rhythm we knew this is easily chasable. 10 per over at this ground isn’t a huge task.

“The partnership with Shreyas Iyer helped me take extra time to get the rhythm back. We both have played enough cricket to understand who is going well and who needs time. I wanted to go after the bowling, but the rhythm wasn’t there for the starting 10-12 balls,” said Samson in a post-match presentation.

“We are getting used to the conditions and doing whatever is needed. Really special day for me. I made my debut seven years ago and finally contributing positively to the team’s success means a lot to me playing for the country,” he added.
