Last September, AEW Grand Slam special edition of Dynamite was hosted in New York City at the USTA Arthur Ashe Stadium. This was the first Stadium Show to be hosted by the professional wrestling promotion and it appears that the particular event will become an annual tradition for the company.

AEW Owner and President Tony Khan was a special guest on Sirius XM’s Hit 1 Celebrity Interviews ahead of this week’s AEW Dynamite in Long Island, New York and he went on to deliver some exciting news regarding the future of AEW Grand Slam. The special episode would return to Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York following the success of the event last year.

To the delight of the wrestling fans, it was also indicated that the tennis venue would regularly play host to AEW Grand Slam, each and every year.

“It was something I kind of conceived before the pandemic [booking AEW at Arthur Ashe Stadium],” Khan said about AEW Grand Slam 2022 edition. “It wasn’t that sophisticated of a process. I was Googling stadiums with a roof. The last thing I’d ever want is a weather delay, and I realized one of the best stadiums was right under our nose the whole time.”

“This amazing venue, Arthur Ashe Stadium, and the USTA have been so great to work with, and I’m so excited to be able to say that we’re bringing Grand Slam back to New York later this year, and it’s going to be a tradition.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)

AEW Dynamite: Big Qualifiers And World Champion Announced For Action

AEW Grand Slam should return this September since it was the same month that the event was hosted by the promotion. However, Tony Khan didn’t confirm the same. At this point, AEW’s weekly shows of Dynamite and Rampage are moving toward the next PPV event in line, AEW Double or Nothing.

AEW Grand Slam 2021 featured a 30-minute time limit draw between Bryan Danielson and then-World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega in a marquee match. The event had over 20,000 fans in attendance, recording the highest number of fans for a non-WWE event since the July 5, 1999 episode of WCW Monday Nitro at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. A special AEW Grand Slam edition of Rampage was also hosted.
