Team India on Tuesday (August 2) suffered a major injury scare when their skipper Rohit Sharma walked off the field retired hurt while batting in the third T20I against West Indies. The right-handed batsman had faced just 5 balls before he decided to leave the field.
Rohit had made a bright start to his innings, hitting a six and a four off Alzarri Joseph in the second over before pulling a muscle. The star batsman appeared to visibly struggle with his back before Indian physio Kamlesh Jain come running on to the ground. Rohit and Jain had a lengthy discussion on the field before the India batting mainstay decided to leave the field.

While walking off the field, Rohit was holding the muscle near his waist. BCCI then confirmed through its official Twitter handle that Sharma had a back spasm and the medical team is monitoring the situation. Fortunately for India, their skipper’s injury did not cost them the game as they went on to register an impressive 7-wicket win to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

With the Asia Cup 2022 not very far away, Rohit’s injury made the fans fear the worst. Rohit, however, gave a very positive update on his injury and is hopeful that he would recover soon.
“At the moment, it’s okay. We’ve got a few days till the next game, hopefully it should be okay,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav scored a fine fifty to help India chase down 165 with utmost ease. India crossed the finishing line by losing just 3 wickets and with one over remaining. Suryakumar scored 76 off 44 balls with the help of 8 fours and four sixes. Shreyas Iyer (24) and Rishabh Pant(33) also played handy knocks to guide India to a comfortable win.
