WWE smackdown was taped on yesterday from Biloxi, Mississippi. The show kicked off with an impactful segment where Chris Jericho was hosting his “The Highlight Reel” and his special guest was none other than Dean Ambrose! As it was expected the rest of the six participants of the Money in the Bank ladder match i.e. Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Alberto Del Rio and Cesaro interrupted one by one to join the show and thus set up the main event for Smackdown later the night for a huge six-man tag team match.
Fatal-4-way match: Kofi Kingston def. Aiden English, Luke Gallows and Big Cass
It was an interesting concept to pick one individual from each team and put them into a fatal-4 way match. Kofi got a huge win as a singles competitor, to say the least considering the strong booking of Gallows, Enzo, and Cass in the recent weeks. Though MITB match ups consist of some Wrestlemania worthy match ups but this tag team championship match is no less. Each of them is a strong contender for the championship belt. The New Day is still going strong, Enzo-Cass is their replacement, The Club is bound to capture the titles at some point. Meanwhile, among all of those, Vaudevillains managed to hold themselves on their own.
Backstage a conversation took place among Becky Lynch, Natalya, Dana Brooke and Charlotte regarding their tag match on Sunday. Needless to say, Charlotte’s boring championship reign and the weak storyline involving Ric Flair has weakened the momentum for the Women’s division.
Baron Corbin def. Zack Ryder
Dolph Ziggler was present at the commentary but that did not stop Corbin from getting an expected win. A stare-down between the two finished the segment. This lengthy feud has nothing left in it with zero in stakes. Fans are rather eager to see what’s waiting for Corbin, next. As for Ziggler, his bad days have been continuing since 2014 despite he steals the show every single time.
Rusev def. Kalisto
After winning the match against the former United States champion, Rusev went right into back into work against Kalisto for a post-match assault. Kalisto tried to cut that off only to get into the Accolade in a tighter way. Titus ran down the ramp for the save. Titus wanted to put his hands on Rusev but he fled away.
A backstage segment set up a match between Styles and Woods.
AJ Styles def. Xavier Woods
This was a fresh match up and Styles picked up the win via submission. Having his own momentum towards the MITB match against John Cena by working with the New Day, is a sure good thing for AJ Styles. Woods benefitted too as a singles competitor.
Charlotte def. Natalya
This was a non-title match and saw the same result as it was in the title matches. Dana Brooke got into a fight at ringside with Becky Lynch and the distraction gave upper-hand to the women’s champion to pick up the win.
Ambrose, Zayn, Cesaro def. Kevin Owens, Del Rio and Jericho
As seen on Raw this past week, the heels can’t get along and thus result in an utter chaos. Del Rio tagged in KO without his consent and ate a super-kick. Owens also super-kicked Jericho in the face before Ambrose planted him with the Dirty Deeds. Ambrose stood tall to end the show in WWE Smackdown. This could very well mean that Ambrose is ahead of the rest for winning that briefcase on Sunday. The Ambrose Asylum segment on WWE Raw has indicated it, too.
