Royal Rumble 2023 is the next stop for the WWE after more than two months since Survivor Series 2022 was the final premium live event of the year. The buildup for the upcoming event has started, and plans have also started to take place, gradually. A gimmick match around it that was stricken out from the future PPV list was up in the air but the match itself is likely to make its return in the upcoming January WWE Network Specials.
For the first time in WWE history, the Royal Rumble 2023 will feature a Hell in a Cell match. Wrestling News is the source to report that the match is likely to take place between Finn Balor and WWE Hall of Famer Edge. It was added that this match won’t likely be announced until the December 30th episode of Smackdown mainly due to the fact that the latter name may not be returning to WWE TV until next year.
WWE Royal Rumble 2023: Major Changes Expected In Rumble Matches

Edge was forced into saying “I Quit” in a match against Finn Balor during the early October Extreme Rules premium live event. Now, The Rated-R Superstar is set to seek retribution inside the demonic structure known as Hell in a Cell at Royal Rumble 2023 where Judgment Day members may not be able to create interferences.

Royal Rumble 2023: Edge coming back for vengeance against Finn Balor
Edge lost to Finn Balor in that “I Quit” match at Extreme Rules after The Judgment Day threatened to attack his wife, fellow WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix. The veteran did back out from further competing in the match by saying “I Quit” but Rhea Ripley still bashed Phoenix with a chair to hurt her. It’s likely that Phoenix will be coming back with her husband to take care of the so-called “Rhea problem.”

Finn Balor to bring back old gimmick at Royal Rumble
Besides this, it was added by the source that Balor will be bringing back his “Demon King” gimmick for this upcoming Hell in a Cell match. Thus, it will be the first time that Balor will use his Demon King gimmick since Extreme Rules 2021. On that night, he was defeated by Roman Reigns in a Universal Championship Extreme Rules Match which also marked the end of Demon King’s undefeated streak on WWE TV.
Royal Rumble 2023 is also reportedly set to feature a Pitch Black match, but details regarding the same are yet to be out. According to a previous report by Ringside News, WWE creative was still not having enough information regarding this match.
