Mohamed Salah, who put to bed all the rumours of him leaving Liverpool after penning a lucrative three-year extension in July last year, has admitted that there’s a ‘tough situation’ at the club right now. Liverpool indeed are enduring a tough season, as they sit ninth in the Premier League table, out of the title race long ago, and knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Manchester City in the Round of 16.
However, Mohamed Salah, the ever-present saviour of Liverpool was feeling upbeat and confident as he accepted his Liverpool Player of the Month award at the club AXA training facility. The reason the Egyptian was upbeat, that he expressed full confidence in his ‘unbelievable’ teammates to turnaround the club’s form. While speaking about the award, his first of the season, Salah also backed the Reds to bring a change in their current situation.

‘We have an unbelievable group’ – Mohamed Salah on bringing a change in Liverpool’s fortunes
Expectations were high from Liverpool this season, as they always have been. However, they were more than ever this season, after the club almost scooped in a quadruple of Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and the Carabao Cup last season, only to end it with the domestic cup double. They lost the league title to none other than Manchester City, and took another beating in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
And this season was more miserable as they have already lost a staggering 6 league games and are feared to miss out on a top-four finish. Liverpool are further pitted against the Los Blancos once again in the Champions League Round of 16, and are somehow alive in the FA Cup after beating Wolves in a replay of the third round. Injuries take the blame as well for the hindering of their season, but Salah admit that ‘it should have been better’, over their form. He told the club’s official website:
“It’s always good to win it, but [over] the last couple of weeks we all know we should do better and hopefully the results will be better in the next few games. The players were so excited after the game [at Wolves]. We have a really good group, the players all around try to stick together and just lift each other. I think we have that good vibe in [the] dressing room – hopefully that will help us in the next games.”

He further continued that he still backs his teammates to turn the club’s form around and hit the ground running in the second half of the season. Liverpool stare at a tight calendar going into the last six months of the 22/23 season, with injuries to the likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Arthur Melo, Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk and club record signing Darwin Nunez still hovering above them. Salah added:
“As I said before, we have a really good group. I’ve been in three or four teams – I know what’s different between here and the other teams. We have an unbelievable group. We always try to help the young players, and the experienced ones always try to stay calm in the situation and just advise the young [players] to stay calm. It’s hard, it’s a tough situation, but I think we’re going to go through that and make it better.”
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah is delivering his regular services, scoring 17 goals in 27 games in all competitions, which also took him above club legend Kenny Dalglish on all-time top scorers’ list. He will now be gearing up to face his former side Chelsea on this weekend in a crunch Premier League tie at the Anfield. Both the teams are in a dire need of all three points from this clash in order to boost their top-four chances.
