Professional wrestling legend Bruce Prichard who also went by the name of Brother Love recently talked about the two times WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam and looked back at the former WWE Champion getting a main event push back in 2002 after the inaugural brand split of WWE.

Rob Van Dam joined WWE back in 2001 where he participated in the WWE versus alliance storyline. It was one of the most anticipated storylines in the world of professional wrestling back in those days, and Van Dam turned out to be one of the breakout stars of the mentioned storyline.

Bruce Prichard Recalls Rob Van Dam Getting Main Event Push In 2002

After the WWE vs Alliance storyline ended in late 2001, Van Dam went on to have a singles career in WWE. At WrestleMania X8, he defeated William Regal to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and it was his first major title will in WWE.

After the inaugural brand split of WWE, he became a part of Monday Night RAW. After the WWE title became a part of WWE SmackDown, RAW came up with their own WWE World title which was the World Heavyweight championship which was awarded to Triple H.

Rob Van Dam was the first wrestler to challenge Triple H for the World Heavyweight championship. He challenged “The Game” At the Unforgiven pay per view event, however, he lost the match. At Survivor Series 2002, he participated in the first ever Elimination Chamber match but he was the first man to get eliminated.

After that he teamed up with Kane to feud for Tag Team Championships and the next main event push he got in WWE was in 2006 and he finally went on to win the WWE championship this time. At the One Night Stand pay per view event of the mentioned year, he defeated John Cena to win his first and only WWE Championship.

Bruce Prichard who also went by the name of Brother Love recently spoke on Something To Wrestle where he talked about the two times WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam and looked back at the former WWE Champion getting a main event push back in 2002 after the inaugural brand split of WWE. He said;

“I think we were ready to try. I think we were ready to try with Rob. Rob was the guy from ECW that still had some steam and that the audience knew was new. Rob was unique and stood out from the pack. Yeah, why not try something new with Rob. I’m not sure if Rob had fully adapted to his new surroundings yet.”
