Former Indian Coach Ravi Shastri believes that the decision on Gill’s inclusion should be based on the conditions and says he would be definitely in his choice for the final 12. Shubman Gill has been in fine form having scored four hundreds, including a record double-century, in the last seven innings for India. As a backup opener in tests, he performed very well in the limited opportunity including his terrific knock in Gabba 2021.

In a press conference hosted by Star Sports, Ravi Shastri praised Gill’s recent performance and recalled Gill’s “world-class” knock of 91 at the Gabba in 2021.

“I am not forgetting Gill, Shubman Gill. I’ll have a close eye on Shubman Gill the day before the game starts, after seeing the conditions. So if I have to announce the 12, Gill won’t be far. Don’t forget the last two innings he played against Australia – in Melbourne, he batted beautifully when India won; and at the Gabba, it was his innings that really set up the game. That 91 in the second innings was world-class,” Ravi Shastri said.

Shubman Gill has played 13 tests so far scoring 736 runs at an average of 32. Gill will look to make a count when provided an opportunity.

That’s A Big Blow For India – Ravi Shastri on Rishabh Pant’s Absence

Ravi Shastri feels Rishabh Pant will be a big miss for India going into four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy starting on February 9. on the press conference organized by Star Sports. Shastri Said:

“Now that’s a really tough call. That’s how important Rishabh Pant is. He ticks both the boxes like, behind the stumps. Not only has his keeping improved drastically, but he can also get under the skin of the batters. That’s one very important thing that he has when he keeps.”

“But as a batsman, he’s so dangerous that he can turn a game on its head. In fact, he’s played more match-winning innings than the top five Indian batsmen in the last two-three years when it mattered the most. That’s a big blow,” added Shastri.
