Australian side lost the second test match against India by 6 wickets at Delhi in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Pat Cummins-led side is trailing in the four-test match series by 0-2. Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik said that if Baggy Greens’ side had any blueprint, then it should be to not play a sweep shot on the surface offering low bounce.

Cricketer cum analyst Karthik criticised Australian batting in the second test match

Definitely not every ball. It’s part of your arsenal but it also needs to be backed up by smarts. What we’ve seen here is a disaster for Australia. They’ve gone way over the edge in terms of their aggressive play,” said Indian veteran Karthik.

In the Delhi test match, the Australian side lost nine wickets in the span of 91 minutes in the morning session of 3rd day. The visitors were 61/1 at the end of Day 2 against the home side and were bowled out for 113 runs on the next day. Former Australian players like Allan Border and Matthew Hayden were shocked by the day 3 collapse of the Australian side in the Delhi Test match.

Couple of others didn’t trust their defense. They came out swinging and swinging hard. When you try to do that – when you have already planned in the dressing room, this is how I am going to bat, that can get you in trouble. You come in, you assess the conditions as you deem fit on that day, you have a batting plan and then you adjust according to what’s been presented to you. If you have decided it yesterday, that’s going to get you in trouble,” said the 37-year-old Karthik.

In these kinds of pitches, when you are sitting outside, you are going to come in, you always get a feeling there is a lot happening, how are you going to play, are you going to get out as soon as that happens,” he further added.

Rohit Sharma-led side chased down the target of 115 runs in the second innings to win the second test match. India has successfully retained the BGT trophy four consecutive times with two series wins down under. Men in Blue will take on Aussies in the third test match of the series on Wednesday (1st March) at Indore.
