Australia is trailing by 0-2 in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against India. Pat Cummins-led side lost the second test match at Delhi by six wickets. The Baggy Greens are on the radar of Australian median and former players after back-to-back losses in BGT. Former Aussies pacer Geoff Lawson now slammed assistant coach Daniel Vettori, he questioned Vettori’s presence in the team.

Lawson also criticised Pat Cummins’ role as a captain in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy-
“Cummo (Cummins) has so little experience captaining on spinning wickets, in the contemporary game your captain plays very little Sheffield Shield, and he certainly doesn’t play on spinning wickets. So where does he learn to do all the creative and adaptable things you need to do? He doesn’t, he just gets thrown in the deep end and we watch a lot of videos and make decisions,” said former Australian cricketer.
The tall fast bowler became captain of the Australian test cricket team after the resignation of Tim Paine on November 2021. Australian pacer Cummins has left and returned to his home due to some personal reasons but he is expected to return for the next game.

“The man who’s probably not copping as much as he should is Daniel Vettori who is one of the great left-arm orthodox bowlers in the world, but he should be advising on how we’re going to bowl and how we’re going to play against that sort of bowling,”
“He seems to have escaped a bit of attention here because when I see shots of the dressing room I think, ‘What’s Vettori’s input here, he’s the man who was a great slow ball’. He should perhaps be having more input than most,” said Lawson.
Vettor is rated as one of the best left-arm spinners to have ever played the game in recent times, representing the Black Caps in 113 Tests and 295 ODIs in an 18-year-long illustrious career. The former New Zealand skipper was appointed as an assistant coach of the Australian team in May 2022.
The visitors will surely be looking to draw or win the remaining two test matches in the ongoing BGT for World Test Champions (WTC) final this year. The Australian side will miss out on the final if they fail to avoid a 4-0 series sweep against them by team India or Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 2-0.
The Asian giants will take on Australia for the third match of four test match series at Indore on 1st March 2023.
