Manchester United legend Roy Keane advised Erik ten Hag to step down as manager of the club after watching the Dutchman celebrate the Red Devils’ victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final. With goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford in the first half, United finally ended their six-year trophy drought on a memorable afternoon. After the game, United supporters were understandably jubilant as Newcastle supporters, who had helped to create a wonderful atmosphere throughout, ultimately yielded to the winners.
When Ten Hag stepped forward to lift the trophy, the crowd cheered the loudest in appreciation of the contribution he has made this season. They were particularly thrilled by his dancing as he recreated the celebration had had last year with former Ajax stars Lisandro Martinez and Antony after winning the Eredivisie. However, in usual manner, one man wasn’t pleased with the dance, and Keane advised Ten Hag to leave the club after his dancing.

Erik ten Hag, Roy Keane exchange hilarious chat post United’s cup win
Erik ten Hag orchestrated the his side’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle at Wembley, ending the club’s barren run without a trophy since 2017. First-half goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford sealed the victory, and celebrations erupted at the conclusion of play. Two players who chose to join United from Ajax in the summer, Antony and Lisandro Martinez, were seen wearing their national flags as they celebrated with Ten Hag.
As the coach joined in on the dance, Keane jokingly suggested that the coach should resign. The former midfielder said on Sky Sports: “You should resign after that”. To which Ten Hag replied: “Never, never, never. I did it [the dance] before, and I hope we can do it again.”
Erik ten Hag also made light of the fact that only he and the coaches could enjoy the champagne because the players will be playing in another game a few days later. He continued:
“Managers and staff, it is champagne. For the players, they rest, they have a big game on Wednesday.”

The ex-Ajax coach is also hoping that their first victory would serve as a springboard for additional success. He added:
“First you have to win the first one, and that is what we did. You look at the players’ reaction and the supporters. They were desperate for success. I think we can get inspiration from this and confidence that we can do it. All the build up was about Newcastle and their wait but five, six years for Manchester United seems a long time.
“They deserved their victory. They were efficient and scored two good goals. Hopefully it is the start of the good days coming back to United. We said at the start that we wanted to restore Manchester United by winning trophies and this is the first one.”
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag’s men are still in the running for the FA Cup, the Europa League, and there is a remote chance that they may challenge for the Premier League title alongside leaders Arsenal and second-placed Manchester City. Ten Hag, who has a track record of success from his time at Ajax, was able to have an immediate impact in Manchester and has received a tonne of praise for it.
