According to reports, Manchester United are planning to sign two high-profile players this summer, with the likes of Harry Kane, Frenkie de Jong, Victor Osimhen and Jude Bellingham on their radars. After the January window closed, the Red Devils have been hard at work putting their recruitment strategies together, with Erik ten Hag anxious to capitalise on what has been a successful first season for him at Old Trafford.

The Carabao Cup has already been won, but the Premier League, Europa League, and FA Cup trophies are still up for grabs. According to The Manchester Evening News, United will try to add at least two high-profile players to their roster at the earliest chance. The Red Devils are still interested in Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder who was a target in 2022, alongside England starlet Jude Bellingham.

Manchester United determined to land at least two big signings in summer

After releasing Cristiano Ronaldo as a free agent in November last year, Manchester United have taken the Netherlands international Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in an effort to temporarily reinforce their attacking ranks. With players like Tottenham’s Kane, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko among those rumoured to be registering on United’s recruitment radar, a permanent addition to that department is anticipated in the upcoming window.

In north London, the England captain is in the last 18 months of a contract that will end in 2024. Although Kane has been with Spurs during his career’s prime, he hasn’t won any major trophies for his extraordinary goal-scoring prowess, and a high-profile transfer is still being talked about for the summer of 2023. Manchester United, under Erik ten Hag have shown that they are back to winning silverwares and Kane might just make the leap in the summer.

However, if they are unsuccessful in their pursuit of the Tottenham forward, Manchester United are prepared to make a sizable summer transfer effort to capture Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian has been identified by the Red Devils as one of the top replacements for the English striker. Osimhen has shut the critics who once tagged him as a ‘one season wonder’, by consistently delivering for the Naples side.

As far as the midfield concerned, Ten Hag is not content with the £70m addition of Casemiro and loan signing Marcel Sabitzer. The Dutchman still wants new recruitments in that department and the Red Devils are ready to once again make an effort to sign the talented Jude Bellingham. The English international is up for grabs in the summer, and Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester City are all in the running to get him.

The Red Devils are rumoured to be keeping an eye on Bellingham’s situation as well, and they might have an advantage given they could ensure his continuation in the Champions League next season. The Carabao Cup victory on Sunday helped Erik ten Hag’s team further establish their credentials. Frenkie de Jong is still wanted as well despite United failing to land him last summer.

But, according to the Spanish daily Sport, the newly crowned League Cup champions are not giving up and will try their luck once more this summer in their attempt to recruit the Dutch international. However, De Jong showed last year that he was not in any hurry to move to Manchester, and he has also been a significant part of Xavi’s project at the Camp Nou. As a result, Sport claims that any deal for De Jong appears incredibly difficult to execute for Manchester United.
