Following AC Milan’s qualification for the quarterfinals of the Champions League while knocking out Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea supporters have been busy searching through the archives for a new theory. Milan travelled to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Wednesday night with a slim 1-0 advantage with hopes of making it to the round of eight for the first time since 2012.
Spurs were eliminated from Europe’s top competition following a goalless draw, while Milan advanced with a 1-0 aggregate victory. Following the Serie A team’s success, Chelsea fans have proposed a bizarre theory that their team will likely take home the Champions League trophy this season. The Blues too made it to the quarterfinals, after overturning a 1-0 deficit against Borussia Dortmund in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fan stuns with AC Milan Champions League theory
Chelsea fans, it seems have turned to superstitions and beliefs after their club’s turmoil continued despite spending a whopping £300m in the winter transfer market. The Blues went into the second leg of the round of 16 against Dortmund on the back of just one win in seven games in all competitions. Graham Potter somehow managed to uplift the mood of the fans as his side churned out a 2-0 win which helped them overcome a 1-0 deficit and qualify through to the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, Tottenham were knocked out by seven-time Champions League winners AC Milan at home after a goalless draw. The Rossoneri arrived in north London with a narrow 1-0 lead, and were successful in defending it against Antonio Conte’s side, which rather looked uninterested in overturning the deficit. As soon as Tottenham were sent crashing, a Blues’ fan came with a theory of his own, claiming this will be Chelsea’s year in the Champions League. The fan explained on Twitter:
“Milan are in the UCL QF for the first time since 2011/12…they beat an English side in the RO16 both times….
“Chelsea made 7+ signings in 2011/12 & lost the first RO16 leg before qualifying for the QF.
“Chelsea made 7+ signings & lost the first RO16 leg before qualifying for the QF this season.”

The common theme among all three tweets is the belief that Graham Potter’s team will hoist the trophy in Istanbul in June, making history repeat itself this year. The ‘Borussia Dortmund curse,’ which states that the team that eliminated Dortmund in the previous four seasons went on to lose the final, was mentioned earlier by Chelsea supporters.
Even if it may appear like they are clinging to thin air, stranger things have happened in the world of football. Meanwhile, the win over Dortmund meant Chelsea won successive games in all competitions for the first time since October last year, as they followed their 1-0 victory over Leeds United in the Premier League with the Champions League win. Graham Potter, whoa arguably was the most relieved man leaving Stamford Bridge told the reporters:
“To win a game to go into the last eight of the Champions League you’d have to say it’s up there with wins and evenings in my career. This evening the players and the supporters were tremendous – we had to be against a team that were doing so well, 10 games on the bounce winning. I think over the two legs we deserved to go through. We played a good game in Dortmund but we didn’t score, today we did.”
