In Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)  has appointed a new skipper, replacing Mayank Agarwal for the 16th edition of the league. While SRH will be looking to lift the title for the second time after winning it in the 2016 edition.

South African T-20 skipper, Aiden Markram will be leading the Hyderabad-based side this season, Sunrisers opener, Mayank praised Markram by calling him the machine.

Mayank Agarwal on SRH’s newly appointed skipper, Aiden Markram-

“He is a great guy. Apart from being a fantastic cricketer, he is a great guy. So that tells you a lot about him. I call him the machine, and that’s for a reason,” Mayank said.

“Somebody who works really hard on his game, who really thinks a lot about his game, and who is genuinely a great guy, and who has a very happy and relaxed vibe around him, ” Mayank said on SRH’s YouTube channel.

In the recently concluded SA20 league, Markram was the third-highest run-getter with 366 runs from 12 matches at an average of 33.27 with 1 hundred and 1 fifty in the inaugural edition of the league.

“I am really looking forward to playing under him because we had a bond when we played for Punjab. I’m really looking forward to building on that when we play now for SRH,” he further added.

While, in the last session, SRH finished in the 8th spot in the points table with eight wins and six losses, under Agarwal leadership. While, Markram will be the third skipper for the franchise in the three editions, with Kane Williamson and Mayank as the Sunrisers’ captains in the past two seasons.

Even before his appointment as SRH captain, Aiden Markram had made it clear that he would like to lead the side. The star batsman, who led South Africa to their first and so far only U19 World Cup title in 2014, said that he would respect the team management’s decision before expressing his desire to be the captain.

Whereas, IPL 2023, will kick off on 31st March with the opening game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), While, SRH will start their campaign against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 2.
