Jim Ross Discusses Why Steve Austin Vs. Hulk Hogan Never Happened
Austin vs Hulk Hogan has always been a huge request for a Dream match, but unfortunately, it never happened and it will never happen. Even though WWE tried to book it a number of times before. When Austin was on his prime, Hogan was working in WCW. When hogen return to WWE in 2002, the dream match was in plan.
The first occasion that was determined to book the match was WrestleMania X8. There were heavy plans to book this match for this event. But for some reason the match could not be booked, instead we got another dream match between Hulk Hogan and The Rock. Needless to say it turn down to be one of the best matches in WrestleMania history.

The next occasion that was determined for this match was No Way Out 2003. But once again the match could not be booked on this occasion either, instead WWE went for a second match between Hogan and Rock. During the Ruthless Aggression Era Hogan even teased with match once. But once again we just had to face disappointments. Unfortunately this match will never happen again.
Jim Ross who is currently working as a colour commentator in the All Elite Wrestling recently spoke on the “Grilling JR” podcast where he talked about the dream match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan and explained why this dream match never happened. He said;

“Austin didn’t want to work with him,” JimRoss said on the “Grilling JR” podcast. “It was the wrong place at the wrong time. There was a time in both of their careers when that match should have been the dream match.
“The two biggest stars in the last two generations of wrestling fighting each other. But, again, and I’m not trying to make excuses for Hogan, but all truth be known, he should not even have been in a ring [in 2003] because he couldn’t get it done anymore.”
