Indian U-19 team lifted the title for 4th time by beating Australia in 2018, the Prithvi Shaw-led side won by eight wickets and Shubman Gill was declared player of the tournament. While junior World Cup prodigy Shaw made his debut for Team India in 2018, much earlier than Gill and scored a hundred on his Test debut, but has not been consistent since then, whereas the Punjab Batsman has cemented his place in all three formats of cricket for Men in Blue.

Former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag has criticised Shaw after his recent failure in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and said that he has to score 600+ runs like Ruturaj Gaikwad did in the 2021 edition to be ahead of his competitors.

Virender Sehwag reminded Prithvi Shaw about his competitors-

He has been dismissed playing those kind of shots so many times…but he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL.

He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores,” said former Indian opener.

Shubman has been in the purple patch of his career–and he has done a fine job as an opener so far. He has been in red-hot form for India in all three formats. In Test cricket, he scored 736 runs in 13 matches at an average of 32. Gill has been hailed from all over the world for his recent performances in the International circuit. He recently scored the ton in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia.

This was Mumbaikar’s second successive batting failure in IPL 2023, after being dismissed on 12 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their opening game, while in the second match, he only managed 7 runs. While Shaw was recently picked in the T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year, but didn’t feature in any game.

Coming into the match, batting first Delhi Capitals had a poor start losing out 4 wickets for just 67 runs, as their top batters failed miserably with Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, and Rilee Rossouw dismissing without scoring many runs putting the team in the spot of bother. Abishek Porel and Axar Patel put up a cameo to take Delhi Capitals to a decent total of 162 runs.

With 163 runs, to chase Gujarat Titans lost their openers for just 36 runs, With the Tamil Nadu duo Sai Sudharsan and Vijay Shankar stitching a partnership of 53 runs followed by a brilliant cameo by David Miller, helping the team to chase down the total with 11 balls to spare.

While in IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals will take on Rajasthan Royals in their third match on their first-afternoon game on April 8 in Barsapara, Guwahati.
