While Virgil van Dijk is well regarded for his performance for Liverpool on the pitch, it appears that he can also deliver in a McDonald’s drive-thru. Since the Dutch defender joined Liverpool in January 2018 after moving for £75 million from Southampton, he is actively involved in the neighbourhood.
However, this week’s fast food customers at the Kirkby McDonald’s probably didn’t expect to see the 6’5″ center-back at the drive-thru window. Van Dijk was seen passing orders through the window while assisting the McDonald’s personnel in a video that was shared on social media. Unsurprisingly, a throng quickly formed, with young people peering through the glass to see the Liverpool star.

Van Dijk delivers on the pitch for Liverpool and off it for McDonalds
Van Dijk was handed a tray of McFlurrys to distribute to the crowd, who was wearing a casual pullover, slacks and sneakers. Fans were confused by the Liverpool star’s appearance in McDonald’s, which sent the fans in a frenzy. Although it appears improbable that the 31-year-old has changed his professional path before Sunday’s season-ending match between Liverpool and Southampton, it is unknown why he was there.
The most plausible explanation is that his look was influenced by his prior employment at the quick foot retailer. Van Dijk participated in the company’s Fun Football and Happy Readers events earlier this year, which promoted reading among kids. Van Dijk said:
“Liverpool is a special place and I love being able to give back to the community that supports us so passionately. Like McDonald’s, I am a strong believer that every child should have the chance to learn and play and it is a topic that is close to me and my family which is why I am here today.

“McDonald’s is helping families by offering them more opportunities to access free books and free Fun Football coaching. Today alone we gave out over 3,000 books to children and, from what I saw on the pitch and in the reading area, we may have a few budding authors and footballing superstars in the making.”
The Liverpool defender isn’t frequently seen flipping burgers or serving ice creams, despite his prominence in the world of sports. His current employment at the McDonald’s in Kirkby, nevertheless, was truly amazing. Van Dijk once again demonstrated why he is such a well-liked character on and off the pitch by helping the hardworking crew with their drive-thru duties.
Van Dijk has endured a tough season with Liverpool, who failed to qualify for the Champions League after Manchester United downed Chelsea 4-1 on Thursday to formally seal a top four spot. The Reds will now contest a dead-rubber game against already relegated Southampton on the last matchday, with Klopp and company’s eyes firmly set on the upcoming summer transfer window.
