Harry Brook’s promising knock in the ongoing first Ashes Test against Australia at Edgbaston ended in a bizarre manner as he was bowled by Nathan Lyon.

The right-handed batsman began well and hit a glorious four over extra cover off Lyon’s bowling to get going. In no time he raced away to 32 runs with the help of 4 fours before being sent back by the Australia spin spearhead in one of the strangest dismissals one has ever seen on the field.

On the second ball of the 38th over, Lyon bowled a short delivery and Harry Brook tried to work it on the leg side. However, he failed to make any contact with the ball probably due to height. The ball unexpectedly bounced more than anticipated before striking his thigh pad and popping up into the air.

It was followed by a moment of confusion as the wicketkeeper, short leg fielder, and even Brook himself were uncertain about the ball’s trajectory. And before anyone could realise it, the ball landed in the small gap between Brook and the stumps, only to ricochet off and crash into the stumps, leaving the batsman disappointed and the Australians elated.

Here is a clip of Harry Brook’s dismissal:

Talking about the game, Australia have put themselves in the driver’s seat on day 1 of the Ashes-opener. At the time of writing this report, they had England reeling at 187 for 5 in the 42nd over. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow were at the crease and the hosts would be hoping that their star duo power them to a good total.
