The Indian team got into action in Barbados as they prepare for the first Test against the West Indies which begins in Dominica on July 12. Team India’s participation in the two-match series is crucial because they are transitioning to the most basic format.
Although the Indian team has a few promising young players, all eyes will be on renowned batsman Virat Kohli, who will be eager to accumulate some useful runs.
In the first of those match simulations, the top-order batters – Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane – and the frontline bowlers – Jaydev Unadkat, Mohammed Siraj, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja – were divided into two different teams.
The batters came out in pairs unless they were dismissed. First came Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal and after they had their knocks, Virat Kohli came out with Shubman Gill. Kohli’s stay in the middle, however, was not a long one as he was dismissed early by Jaydev Unadkat.
The former captain of India got off to a comfortable start against Ravindra Jadeja, and it seemed like he had everything under control even when Unadkat tried to bring the ball in or angle it away from over the wicket. But when the seasoned left-arm seamer shifted his approach and circled the wicket, Kohli stumbled.

Unadkat pitched one just holding its line after round the fourth stump with it. Instead of making a decisive foot movement when he should have gone forward or back, Kohli ended up pushing the ball with his hands. The second slip fielder took a secure catch as Kohli walked back to the pavilion.

The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, enjoyed a successful practice match as he sped to a carefree 40-run knock before exiting the game. Even from the bowling of Unadkat, he hit a cracking pull shot for a six.
During the warm-ups, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill reportedly displayed remarkable form by managing quick-fire fifties.
