Drew McIntyre remained out of action for nearly 2 months after his defeat at WrestleMania 39 by the hands of Gunther. The fans were making theories that he would return to challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. Everyone was getting thrilled after hearing such theories.

There were also rumours that he was not happy with the way WWE treated him recently. But this theory was rejected later. The biggest rumor and the one that everybody was looking forward to was a potential heel turned for Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Warrior returning to WWE as a heel and challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship would have been a dream come true for most of the fans.

The Logic Behind Drew McIntyre’s Reluctance to Turn Heel: Preserving the Integrity of His Character

He did make his return at Money in the Bank, but he neither made his return as the heel nor he challenged for the World Heavyweight Championship. Instead he challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental championship. Recently he spoke to Armon Sandler’s Stay Busy podcast where he explained how he would like to see his heel turn. Here is what he had to say;

“Staying on the path I’m on right now, I want to make sure I get interesting and compelling stories. It’s cool coming out and getting the cheers. I always want to be in something interesting and get you emotionally invested as well. There was a period where I wasn’t doing that, and thankfully I got back into it when I got with Sheamus and leading into that triple threat.

Drew McIntyre Would Challenge Gunther At Summerslam Tonight

“I want to make sure to keep evolving and keep adding layers to that character and doing all the cool things I get to do outside the ring and get that title reign in front of fans, finally. The character itself, I’m willing to go any direction that is interesting. People are calling for a heel turn, but I’m not willing to do that unless it makes perfect sense. We have a lot of equity in Drew McIntyre.

“I show up at Special Olympics and see the effect WWE and McIntyre has on people and I can understand Cena’s perspective of not turning. Of course, he’s on a higher level and did so much outside the ring, but I can understand where he was coming from. For the right time and right moment and it was entertaining for the fans, I would be about that. One of my favorite runs was outside the company as a heel. When that dark side comes out, it’s pretty dark.”

There are still possibilities of the Scottish Psychopath turning hill and challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship. A feud for the new World Heavyweight Championship between Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre would definitely be a dream come true. And if Drew starts to work as a heel World Heavyweight Champion, it would be the cherry on top of the cake.
