Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that they are desperate to end their ICC title drought in International Cricket during the ODI World Cup 2023 in home conditions. Men in Blue will be one of the favourites to win the championship on home soil as they got an experienced and well-oiled unit to win the championship in India.

With India failing to win a single ICC trophy over the last decade or so, many believe that the 2023 ODI World Cup will give them the best chance to win the championship as the conditions would favour the Indian team as they have got experienced players in their team.

Speaking to the media at an event, Rohit Sharma said that he is desperate to win the 50-over World Cup on home soil and is aware of the fact that the team needs to be at its absolute best to win the championship on home soil.

“Honestly, I have never won a (50 overs) World Cup, it’s a dream to win a World Cup and to be here fighting for it nothing makes me happier than that.

“You don’t get World Cups on a platter, you have to really work hard and that is what we have been doing all these years from 2011 till now we all are fighting for it,” Rohit Sharma said.

Team India was at its best during the period between 2007 and 2013, when India won three ICC trophies – the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013 – under the inspiring leadership of MS Dhoni and the team will be pumped to do well under Rohit Sharma in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

We Are All Good Players, That Inner Confidence and Self-belief Is There… – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma said that everyone in the team is desperate to win the championship after 12 long years on home soil and revealed that the players have the confidence to win the trophy on home soil and said that the team will continue fighting for the trophy.

“Everyone is desperate to go and win because we know we have a good team. We are all good players, and that inner confidence and self-belief are there that we can do it. It’s not happened doesn’t mean that we take it lightly. When we lost the 2022 World Cup, I said we will keep fighting for the next World Cup,” he stated.

“The World Test Championship was coming and I said we will keep fighting for it, no matter what. Kabhi na kabhi to milega (we will win it at some point),” Rohit Sharma added.

Apart from his captaincy, Rohit Sharma’s form will be crucial for the Men in Blue this year with Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 being scheduled later this year in India. He has a chance to become the third Indian captain to lift the ODI World Cup after legendary Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.
