The latest episode of WWE NXT hosted a match to determine the next number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship held by Tiffany Stratton. This went down after four female talents of the white-and-gold brand targeted the championship, as seen last week while trying to attack the champion.

During the August 29 episode of NXT, four of those stars were given a championship shot where Kiana James defeated three other women Roxanne Perez, Blair Davenport, and Gigi Dolin in a Fatal-4-Way. As a result, the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion has now become the new challenger for Tiffany Stratton’s NXT Women’s Championship.

Kiana James secures the biggest match of her WWE NXT career

In the final sequence of this main event match on WWE NXT, Perez managed to hit Pop Rox on Davenport but the latter rolled out of the ring before she could pin her. Dolin then slid back in the ring and set Perz up for the Gigi Driver. Perez fought her off, but Kiana James caught her with a 401K, out of nowhere. She then delivered a knee to Dolin’s face for the pin to win.

More Main Roster Superstars Appear On August 29 NXT Episode

After the match, Tiffany Stratton appeared in the ring and stared down James while holding up her WWE NXT Women’s Championship to close the segment as well as the show. Following the show, it was announced via social media that Kiana won’t have to wait, too long for her title shot. Rather, she gets to face the champion, next week on the September 5 episode.

Tiffany Stratton has been the NXT Women’s Champion since May

For the past few months, Tiffany Stratton has been the new queenpin of the WWE NXT Women’s Division. At the age of just 24, she managed to clinch a championship victory in only her 26th televised match of her entire career, setting a record in the post-NXT 2.0 era. Her recent performances are so pleasing that even the veteran Natalya Neidhart has wished to feature in a program with her.

It was at the Battleground PPV event in late May that she defeated Lyra Valkyria in the finale of a tournament to win the WWE NXT Women’s Championship. Since then, she has defended the gold on two occasions, both times against Chase U’s Thea Hail to retain. The title match against Kiana will mark her overall third TV title defense.
