Sri Lanka Meteorological Department Director General Athula Karunanayake stated that the weather in Colombo is favourable for the Super 4 games of the Asia Cup 2023. It is predicted that the weather will improve after September 9th.

As per the reports, the weather conditions in Sri Lanka are expected to improve significantly during the latter part of the tournament. India is scheduled to play against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super 4 game of the tournament at Colombo. This will be followed by matches against the home team Sri Lanka on September 12 and Bangladesh on September 17.

According to reports from PTI, Athula Karunanayake stated that the weather in Colombo will be a mix of sun and clouds with some rain expected after September 9th. He also mentioned that the weather is expected to improve by the end of the Asia Cup final on September 17th.

“During this time of the year, which is the end of the southwest monsoon period, the southwestern part of Sri Lanka receives more rainfall. In the last two weeks, we witnessed more rain in the western province. The western province could receive a bit of rain, but after September 9, it would be sunny and cloudy but with very little rain”.

“In the coming week, the western province could get a few showers but by September 17, the day the Asia Cup final will be played, rains are expected to subside,” Karunanayake stated in a report.

Asia Cup 2023 has been severely affected by the heavy rains in the Island nation. The tournament is being hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka owing to a hybrid model, with Pakistan being the original host of the event.

India and Pakistan have sealed their place in the Super 4 stage after a comprehensive win over Nepal in the group stage of the tournament, with the game between the two Asian heavyweights washed out by rain. while the Men in Green has registered their victory over Bangladesh in the Super 4 stage of the tournament.

The ongoing tournament in Sri Lanka has been greatly impacted by extreme weather, causing several disruptions to the games. Many cricket experts and former players have criticised the decision to co-host the event in Sri Lanka, citing the frequent rain as the main cause for the disruptions.
