Since May 27, Seth Rollins has been the top WWE Raw talent with the World Heavyweight Championship hanging around his waist. He was victorious in a tournament at Night of Champions to win the returning belt on WWE programming. To date, the babyface superstar has proved to be a fighting champion but his days as the champion could be numbered and it’s not because of Senor Money in the Bank, Damian Priest.

In the main event of the WWE Payback 2023 premium live event, Seth Rollins defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. This marked Nakamura’s first-ever performance in a headliner match of a WWE PPV/PLE where he came up short while Rollins has now crossed 100 days as champion on WWE Raw.

WWE Raw: Shinsuke Nakamura gearing up to become a new champion

Despite the shortcomings, Nakamura attacked Rollins after the match to ensure that the feud would continue during the post-Payback season of WWE Raw. According to Xero News, some WWE Officials now want Nakamura to dethrone Rollins to become the new World Heavyweight Champion,

“Some within the company want Shinsuke Nakamura to defeat Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, whilst there are many who support Rollins and want his reign to continue for the time being.”

Nakamura winning the World Title is considered to be a shocking situation on WWE Raw, as his booking hasn’t been strong in years. The last time he featured in a prominent world title feud was in 2018 against AJ Styles and came up short in numerous matches. However, coming up short at Payback has only fueled the passion within him to become a world champion as he attacked Rollins, this past Monday night and uttered the following,

“Don’t tell me what to do. I decide when. I decide how. [I will] break him down more, and then take his title.”

While nothing is guaranteed at this point, it appears that Rollins and Nakamura will collide in a title rematch at the FastLane premium live event waiting in the first week of October with the rivalry getting intense on WWE Raw. Nakamura is focused on taking advantage of Rollins having a bruised back for a long time and perhaps this angle will play a pivotal role if the championship does end up changing hands.
