After months of speculations, Alberto Del Rio’s second stint as a WWE Superstar has come to an end. WWE has issued an official statement to release the Mexican superstar. Del Rio has accepted the fact stating that he left the company on good terms and no bitter feelings. He also stated that a door to his return for one last time is always open.
However, the speculations were where he is heading next, the aftermath. An official statement came from the AAA banner’s Lucha Underground promotion that Del Rio is joining the promotion from October. He will be returning to the promotion after one year recreating the character of Alberto El Patron. (statement courtesy SportsKeeda)
“CONFIRMED! This Oct. 2 at the Arena Monterrey, El Patron Alberto returns to Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide to join the cartel Heroes Immortals X. The confrontation in which he will participate will be revealed soon along with the full lineup of tribute event Lic. Antonio Peña Herrada, founder of Lucha Libre AAA.”
Last year, around October, Del Rio was performing for the Lucha Underground promotion. He joined the Mexico-based promotion in the year 2014 after his first WWE stint. He renewed a WWE contract in 2015 but did not even let the AAA know that he is heading to WWE, once again.
When Del Rio returned to the Hell in a Cell PPV against John Cena he was still the AAA Mega champion in the Lucha Underground. He became the United States champion on his returning night and never returned to the Lucha Underground to defend his AA title for one last time. Hence, on November 9th AAA decided to vacate the championship.
So, it was thought that there will be some sort of rift between him and AAA after last year’s incident. However, it looks like things have been sorted out between them and the Mexican Aristocrat will return their only to wrestle sixty days in a year. He is also willing to hang up his boots within two or three years.
