Pink ball to be put to test in Sri Lankan domestic cricket 1

Since the emergence of the pink ball in cricket arena, it has taken giant steps and has become a necessity for most of the cricket associations as every association is now going pink i.e. experimenting pink ball in domestic cricket. A few days back, New Zealand board announced that they will use the pink ball in domestic cricket and now it is the Sri Lankan board that has expressed its desires to go pink.

In a chat with the Colombo-based Sunday Times, the Vice President K. Mathivanan of SLC indicated that they will experiment the pink ball in Super-Eight Club tournament that will be played next year.

“At some point, we have to get accustomed to the pink ball, and I don’t think there would be a big impact if they use that ball for a ‘day’ game,” Mathivanan was quoted saying by Colombo-based Sunday Times.

This is the clear indication by the vice president of the Sri Lankan board himself that the board is ready to experiment the pink ball in domestic cricket. Recently, Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced the idea of the pink ball in Indian domestic cricket and the experiment received mixed reviews as some players were comfortable with it whereas other one were not averse to the pink ball.

The biggest disappointment was when one of the players even said that the pink ball was difficult to spot at night. This raised some questions regarding pink ball and finally BCCI decided to drop the idea of any further use of the pink ball in domestic cricket.

The Sri Lanka Board will be the third board in Asia to experiment pink ball as Pakistan too had a taste of pink ball in domestic cricket. In fact, they are set to play a pink ball Test match against West Indies in U.A.E. from October 13, Australia and New Zealand were the first teams to play an international game with the pink ball.

Sri Lankan board is yet to take a final call on this but looks like they will use the pink ball as they have to change themselves according to the current trends and fashion going on in cricket arena.  Rest the future of pink ball depends on upon players views and reviews.
