Just two days back, the BCCI president Anurag Thakur, during an interaction with media said that the Indian cricket team might not participate in Champions Trophy 2017 which is scheduled to be played next year in June in England.
“I don’t know whether India will be able to play Champions Trophy. If you go by the Lodha Committee report, you have to play either the IPL or the Champions Trophy. So BCCI has to take a call on that,” said Anurag Thakur, the President of BCCI.
Thakur’s statement came in wake of the Lodha recommendations committee, according to which the Indian cricket team is not allowed to take part in Champions Trophy as rules state that there should be a gap of at least 15 days between IPL and Champions Trophy. Going by this, the Indian cricket team is not eligible to take part in the Champions Trophy next year.
A concerned and frightened ECB has decided to table a meeting with BCCI where they will ask BCI to take a clear stand on this issue.
It is not the only issue which is causing problems for ECB as along with this, there is another problem brewing which has frightened ECB. The BCCI President, Anurag Thakur, has clearly said that India will not compete against Pakistan in any ICC tournament. Going by this, the Champion Trophy game between India and Pakistan is in doubt now. The BCCI has even written a letter to ICC to change their group as both Pakistan and India are placed in the same group and are set to play the biggest game of Champions Trophy on June 4.
The ICC is yet to take a call on request of BCCI and in few days we will get to know whether ICC take concern of BCCI request or not?!
