Jason Gillespie and Steve Waugh open to a huge post in Cricket Australia! 1

It has not been a great year for Cricket Australia who were just whitewashed by South Africa in a limited over series.

Rodney Marsh, the chairman of selectors for Cricket Australia is now under some pressure after back to back poor performances and it is understood that he may not work with the team after his tenure comes to an end next year.

The former test wicketkeeper for Australia, Marsh, has revealed that he will not be extending his stay as the chairman of selectors after his contract expires and this has now left Cricket Australia in a search for possible applicants who can take his place on the board.

For a nation like Australia, it will not be hard to find potential candidates who can take the team to a higher level and reports today have named two of the best players in their recent history to take over this place on the Board.

Last week, Cricket Australia explained that Rodney Marsh will be stepping down and this has seen some  prominent names speak about their chances of landing the job after Marsh.

Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie spoke to the media and revealed that he will be running for the post at the national team next year/

Speaking to the media, Gillespie said, “There is a national selector’s job up next year and I might put my name up for that.”

“All I have done the last five years is select teams for Yorkshire. I wouldn’t rule anything out. If there are opportunities I will look at it,” he added.

He was not the only player who has opened up about the job.

Former Australian skipper Steve Waugh also opened up about how he is open to a job in the Cricket Australia board.

Having retired more than a decade ago, Waugh felt that there are better people to take the job but revealed that he would not turn it down if it was offered to him.

Australia Nets Session

“I’d listen to it if the opportunity came up, but there are a lot of things you’ve got to throw into the mix and see whether it’s the right time,” Waugh told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“I think there are a lot of good cricket brains in Australia. No one has asked me, but I’d listen to it,” he added.

Rodney Marsh’s time at CA was mixed with Australia losing the Ashes but lifting the 50-over World Cup in his tenure. They will hope that his successor can bring consistency.
