Giroud

Olivier Giroud may have woke up on Sunday morning fearing the thought of Arsenal losing to their local rivals Tottenham, in the north London derby.

The Frenchman is making a steady return to the Arsenal team after a spell on the sidelines, and will be looking to quickly re-find the goalscoring form that saw him finish sixth in the Premier League scoring charts last season.

It would be forgivable that Giroud may have some fears of late: the potential for a recurrence of his recent injury, or to not be able to find his goalscoring form of last campaign.

However, as per Goal, the 30-year-old has hilariously revealed that, despite all the world-class opponents the experienced striker has come up against in his career, his biggest fear was alien TV character, ALF.

According to Giroud, his older brothers used to tease him about the 1980s American sci-fi sitcom character. But while the Frenchman can joke about it now, it was no laughing matter for the Gunners star, at the time.

“This is so funny, but my brothers are older than me – I was the youngest, and they used to tease me about a kids TV character called ALF. Do you know him?” said Giroud.

“ALF the Alien, my God he was so ugly and I was so scared of him. My brother used to say, ‘Be careful, ALF is going to get you tonight!’ They went too far with it!”

Although rather embarrassing for the Arsenal striker, it is, on the other hand, promising that Giroud has seemingly been more fearful of a fictional character, rather than any of the defenders he has come up against in the Premier League and in European competition.

But the revelation certainly tickled a number of football fans, who wasted no time in reacting to Giroud’s rather embarrassing admission.

Giroud now, though, will be hoping to be the one inflicting fear on others.

While injuries have hindered the Gunners star, at times, this season, he will be a vital asset for the north Londoners this campaign, if Arsene Wenger’s men are to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

Arsenal’s promising start to the season will only be boosted by Giroud’s return. But it remains to be seen if the striker can be the difference in helping the Gunners to the title.
