Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has become the third Asian captain to lead his team in 50 Test matches after the former Sri Lankan great Arjun Ranatunga and Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni. He achieved this record during the first Test match against New Zealand at Christchurch. Ranatunga led his team in 56 Test matches whereas Dhoni as Test skipper played a total of 60 Test matches. Misbah had a real chance of eclipsing both the neighbouring skippers and climb to number 1 spot.
Ranatunga led his team in 56 Test matches whereas Dhoni as Test skipper played a total of 60 Test matches. Misbah, who has now 50 caps as captain, has a real chance of eclipsing both the neighbouring skippers and climb to number 1 spot. Out of 50 Tests he has led his team, Pakistan has won 24 games and have suffered a loss in 14 matches. A total of 11 matches has ended in a draw.
Out of three skippers viz M.S. Dhoni, Ranatunga and Misbah, it is Misbah who possess worst winning percentage as he has an average of just 28% whereas Dhoni registers winning count of 30%. Ranatunga has the best numbers and has a winning percentage of 33.92. If Misbah he leads team successfully for two more years, he will easily eclipse both the men in terms of matches as skipper but improving the winning percentage will be a hard nut to crack.
On the field today, however, it was not a good day for Pakistan as they were packed on a mere score of 133. Misbah himself tried to stand against the fast and fiery bowling line-up of New Zealand but failed. Though he ended as top scorer in the first innings by virtue of scoring 31 runs but still could not really float the sinking ship of Pakistan.
