Group A

The fast and fierce pitch of Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket stadium left each and every batsman astounded on day 1 of the seventh round of Ranji Trophy 2016/17. It was a green track which had everything for fast bowlers and it was a dream track for a player like Ashok Dinda. A total of 23 wickets fell on day 1 of the contest between Bengal and Baroda where Baroda drew the first blood by gaining first innings lead.

Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first. He straightway handed the new ball to strike bowler Ashok Dinda who scalped 6 wickets after the Mukesh Kumar and AS Kuila sent back the openers to deliver the first blow. Baroda was bundled out on a mere score of 97. Soon Bengal got a taste of their own bread as Baroda bowlers too made most out of the track dismissing Bengal on just 76, gaining what can be called as the mammoth lead of 21 runs. Baroda batsmen had a difficult task to again come out to bat but this time they did well as at stumps they had already posted 63 runs for a loss of three wickets. They possess a huge lead of 84 runs and will be looking to drag it somewhere around 150. It will be an uphill task for Bengal to even chase a score of 100 runs on this track.
