The old foxes have returned to haunt game’s integrity as a match-fixing allegation has come up in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with the authorities promising a probe into the matter.
A taboo, as it is considered in the game, match-fixing is not new to this T20 League around the globe. Recently, BPL franchise Rangpur Riders player Jupiter Ghosh claimed he was approached by team’s manager Sanuar Hossain prior to the tournament to fix some matches. The player further said when he refused to obey the suggestions, he was dropped from the playing eleven.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken the matter into their custody and the probe on the alleged names concerning the matter will be investigated.
“The BCB is investigating the complaints lodged by a cricketer of BPL 2016 franchise Rangpur Riders against an official of the same team.
The BCB recognises the allegations and counter allegations brought forward by the player and the official concerned, which include breach of discipline and corrupt practice, are of serious nature.
The franchise has expelled the player for making the allegations public while the board has suspended Ghosh and Hossain from the tournament.
This is not the first time the fixing rumors have played a spoil sport in BPL. During its inaugural season in 2012, rumors of matches getting fixed were also spread. In 2014, the tournament was suspended for a season as Bangladesh’s prime batsman Mohammad Ashraful and former Kiwi opener Lou Vincent were charged in fixing case.
