Wolfsburg star Ricardo Rodriguez is going nowhere, according to his agent.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga side in the summer with both Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly interested.
Wolfsburg currently sit just two points above the relegation zone after picking up just two wins so far this season.
And Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claim Arsenal are keeping tabs on his situation.
It is claimed the Gunners rate the left-back highly and are the frontrunners for his signature as they look to find a long-term successor to Nacho Monreal.
Rodriguez is quite different to Nacho Monreal. Monreal is relatively conservative in his play, tucking in quite narrow alongside Laurent Koscielny as the left-sided centre-half. That defensive style is important in providing balance, with Hector Bellerin relentlessly flying forward on the opposite flank.
His performances for Wolfsburg have made him one of the most prized left-backs in Europe, and now he appears to have caught Arsenal’s attention.
In the Summer transfer window there were several reports claiming that Wenger was willing to meet the £19million release clause for a player who comes highly recommended by Arsenal’s academy head Andries Jonker.
Jonker should know Rodriguez’s qualities well enough—he was the assistant coach at Wolfsburg until 2014 and retains close links with his former club.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was reportedly keen on signing Rodriguez in the last transfer window, but instead opted for Marcos Alonso.
But any speculation linking him with a move away from Wolfsburg has now been quashed by his agent Gianluca Di Domenico, who insists he is staying put.
“Ricardo is usually the object of transfer speculation, but it’s time to put an end to these stories,” Di Domenico said.
“Ricardo is only focused on Wolfsburg.”
Rodriguez has made 14 appearances across all competitions for Wolfsburg this season, scoring one goal and is contracted to the club until the summer of 2019.
