Virat Kohli succeeded Mahendra Singh Dhoni as Indian skipper and is yet to lose a Test match since then. But when asked about how it feels in the dressing room without former Test captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli got a bit emotional. Dhoni retired from Test cricket in the year 2013 and the decision shocked all Indian fans.
Virat Kohli, in an interview, told how strange it is when someone retires and you do not get to share the dressing room with that particular player anymore. He also spoke about the bonding the cricketer’s share and how the whole team misses Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has brought so much success to India when he was the captain.
Kohli was quoted as saying, “It is obviously a strange feeling. The same thing happened when Sachin Tendulkar retired. Few games after that it was a very strange feeling because you suddenly do not see a very impactful figure in the dressing room and as a cricketer, we are used to having him around for 5-6 years. Listening to him and having discussions with him, that voice is always there but it is a very familiar feeling in the dressing room now that he is not there and you sometimes do feel that he is going to pop out of somewhere”
Kohli now believes that Dhoni has given ample opportunities to all the youngsters and now it is their turn to take Indian cricket forward. The skipper also emphasised on the fact that the team wants to succeed and do well and all the players want to contribute to the team in whichever ways possible.
