When Jayant Yadav was scripting history at the Wankhede against England, little did he know what was going on in his family. The Haryana all-rounder wrote his name in the history books after becoming the first Indian player to score a Test century at number nine.
The right-handed batsman joined skipper Virat Kohli when the team was reeling at 364 for 7, still, 36 runs behind England first innings total, but then played a gem of an innings to pave the way for a brilliant victory. The 26-year old scored 104 and added 241 runs for the eighth with Kohli as India thrashed the visitors by an innings and 36 runs to win the series.
However, Jayant’s happiness would have turned into utter disappointment after knowing that he has lost his grandmother. Jayant’s father, Jay Singh revealed the sad news and said that he missed the moment when his son hit the century because he was travelling to Jalandhar to be with his in-laws.
Speaking to Dainik Jagran, Jay said:” When Jayant was scoring his century, I had left for Jalandhar because Jayant’s grandmother had died at that time and I missed his century. I got to know about Jayant’s knock through the phone when I was on my way to Jalandhar but I will always be disappointed to miss the moment.”
“I was getting a feeling that he will play a big innings today but at that very moment I received the sad news and I had to leave. When I got the message that Jayant has scored the century, I was confused whether to be happy or sad,” he added.
Well, we hope that Jayant recovers from this sad news as soon as possible and keeps on performing well for the team.
