Pakistan is called the most unpredictable team in the game for a reason. Before the beginning of the Test, the Asian giants were in shambles after losing three consecutive Test including the defeat at home to a lowly-ranked West Indies. Their misery only compounded when they were dismissed for 142 in the first innings and nobody would have thought that they would be able to pose a challenge to the hosts after being set an improbable target of 490. But proving everyone wrong, they gave Australia a mighty scare before falling short by 40 runs as they were all out for 450.
Resuming the day on 382 for 8, still needing 108 runs to create history, Asad Shafiq and Yasir Shah began confidently. Backed by their fans’ constant cheering, the duo looked poised to chase down the total before Shafiq was dismissed by a brilliant bouncer from Mitchell Starc for a well-made 137. The writing was very much on the wall for Misbah-ul-Haq’s men after Shafiq’s departure and the match ended in a heart-breaking manner for them when Shah was run out in an unfortunate manner to hand Australia a 1-0 lead in the series.
Earlier, Younis Khan (65) and Azhar Ali (71) had set the tone for the visitors with defying knocks. The chase was then guided by Asad Shafiq as he shared fifty-plus partnerships with number 8, 9 and 10 batsmen. He was brilliantly supported by Sarfraz Ahmed (25 from 41 balls) Mohammad Amir (48 from 63) and Wahab Riaz (30 from 56).

Brilliant Test match! Pakistan were outstanding in the 2nd innings but the Aussies made enough runs. Love this game.

I don't think I will witness a better Test than that. There was everything in it for a Pakistan but the victory #AUSvPAK

Even in defeat that's arguably the best Pakistan batting performance in Australia in over 20 years. #AusvPak

When I was young I was told of the importance of knowing a 2nd language. Across the world, bowlers batting deep are re-emphasising that

If Pakistan @TheRealPCB win this test, cancel all day-night Tests, shut the Gabba permanently, and never speak of this again.#AUSvPAK

@ShaneWarne If Kolkata '01 acted as a deterrent for follow-on enforcements, then Gabba '16 could have a similar effect on declarations !!
