Famous St George's Brass Band Asked To Pipe Down 1

On an entertaining first day of the Boxing Day Test at Port Elizabeth Stadium between South Africa and Sri Lanka, the famous Brass Band of Port Elizabeth was asked to tone down by the match referee David Boon. They were asked to keep mum in the second session of the day when South Africa were leading the charge but in no time, Suranga Lakmal chipped in two crucial wickets of Stephen Cook and Dean Elgar to grab honors.

The prominent band was full with enthusiasm in the first session of the day with loud music being heard in the first session, but after the intervention of match referee, the band kept mum and now is only allowed to cheer in the break interval during the game.

It’s not the first time when this band was asked to keep mum as previously the same incident happened in the year 2000 when New Zealand batsmen complained to the umpires.

In history books, there have been many incidents when a band’s activity was intervened with two incidents happening last year in Sri Lanka. First one came when the Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq complained about disturbance caused by the music of famous Papare Band during the second Test of the series against Sri Lanka. The umpires immediately ordered the band to keep mum. In the Test series between India and Sri Lanka as well, the umpires had asked the band to tone down.
