Virat Kohli became the fourth Indian to score twin hundreds in test matches. It was the seventh instance in the history of India’s Test history. Virat, who scored 115 in the first innings against Australia in the first test at Adelaide a couple of days ago has continued it with a 141 in the second innings.
Vijay Hazare was the first Indian to do so when he scored 116 and 145 against the same opposition at the same venue way back in 1948. Then it was all about Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved this feat thrice. In the first instance, Gavaskar scored 124 in the first innings against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1971 and in the second innings, he took India to a record chase of 410 with a double hundred.
In the second instance, it was against Pakistan at Karachi in 1978 when he scored 111 and 137. And in the third, it was the Windies who faced the heat at Kolkata in 1978 when he scored 107 and 182*.
Rahul Dravid was the third batsman to do so when he did it in 1999 against New Zealand at Hamilton with scores of 190 and 103*. Dravid too did it again in 2005 against Pakistan at Kolkata in which he scored 110 and 135.
