The Premier League this season has been an entertaining one with clubs from around the table pitting in some tough competition in search of three points every week.
The likes of Swansea, Hull City and Sunderland are struggling at the bottom of the table but there is not much dividing them from teams around them in the points table, making the relegation battle an interesting one.
But the Premier League title race is only getting more exciting with each matchday as the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are all trying to reach the summit come the end of the season.
Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side have made great progress from this time last season and stand at the top of the Premier League table, 8 points off Arsenal in the 2nd place.
They have easily been the most consistent team in the competition this season and with no European football to keep them busy, they are hot favorites to go all the way.
The Gunners are followed by the Spurs, who are just a point behind their London rivals in the 3rd place while Liverpool are another point behind the Spurs in the 4th place.
With just 16 games to go, the title race is heating up and according to one Rio Ferdinand, there are just two clubs in the League that can now catch Chelsea at the top of the table.
The likes of Manchester City and Manchester United are currently finding it hard to break into the top-4 and the Manchester United legend felt that neither of the clubs have what it takes to challenge for the title anymore this season.
The Blues travel to Anfield this week to face a crunch tie against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and a win in this game can take them out of the reach of most teams and Ferdinand believes that a loss in this game will all but end Liverpool’s title hopes.
Speaking to the media recently, the former Manchester United defender said, ‘If Liverpool don’t win, they’re out of the title race”.
He went on to explain that London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are the only other team who can even challenge for the title this season. He said, “Though in reality I see Arsenal and Tottenham as the only clubs capable of overhauling Chelsea.”
Ferdinand also felt that the Merseyside outfit and the Manchester duo are fighting for places below the top-3 and that the Premier League title will remain in the capital city this season.
‘Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are fighting it out below them. The title race is a matter for London. Fourth place is a battle for the northwest,’ Ferdinand added.
With the recent form of the Reds, they are not expected to take all three points from this game but if they manage to do so, they will throw open the title race yet again.
